Tums as calicium supplement? - ways to prevent osteoporosis

Tums is a good source of calcium, or the fact that not neutralize stomach acid leads to calcium is added? I have heard in both directions. My stepmother is entitled to take as a source for 10 years to complete. I want to make sure that it's good for them, and it helps prevent osteoporosis.
